The destination
A well-known fishing destination in the Cotswold Lakes
For many anglers, the Cotswold Lakes has become one of the most attractive fishing destinations in England.
With more than 180 lakes spread across Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, the region offers a unique combination of quality fishing, beautiful scenery and excellent accommodation.
Among these lakes, Lake Pochard has built a reputation as a popular destination for anglers looking to combine their fishing with a relaxing countryside break.
Its peaceful setting, established fishing heritage and convenient location make it a popular choice for visitors throughout the year.
The appeal
Why anglers visit the Cotswold Lakes
The Cotswold Lakes offers something many fishing destinations cannot. Visitors can enjoy:
- →Beautiful countryside
- →Waterside accommodation
- →Traditional pubs
- →Excellent restaurants
- →Historic towns
- →Outdoor activities
This means a fishing trip can become a complete holiday rather than simply a day on the bank.
The fishery
Fishing for every angler
The fishery at Lake Pochard caters for both the beginner and the experienced carp angler, with two distinct waters to choose from.
Lake Pochard is an 11.5-acre specimen carp lake with just eight swims, offering a peaceful and uncrowded session on a well-stocked venue. Swims are limited and must be booked in advance to secure your spot.
The Green Lane is reserved exclusively for lodge guests, with no prior booking required. It offers 19 swims to choose from, holding carp, tench, bream, roach, rudd and perch — ideal for pleasure anglers, families and those new to the sport.
The base
Staying close to the water
One of the advantages of staying at Primrose Lodge is being located within the Lake Pochard development itself.
Instead of travelling long distances each day, guests can relax in comfortable accommodation overlooking the lake while remaining close to local fishing opportunities.
For many anglers, this convenience transforms a simple fishing trip into a genuine holiday experience.
Mixed-interest trips
Fishing holidays with family & friends
Not everyone wants to spend every hour fishing.
The Cotswold Lakes is particularly attractive because it offers plenty for non-anglers to enjoy. Partners and families can:
- →Explore South Cerney
- →Visit Cirencester
- →Enjoy lakeside walks
- →Discover local pubs and cafés
- →Relax beside the water
This makes the area ideal for mixed-interest holidays.
The lodge
Why anglers choose Primrose Lodge
Primrose Lodge is purpose-made for a fishing break on Lake Pochard:

- →Drying space for waterproofs and wet kit after a session
- →Fully equipped kitchen for cooked meals between sessions
- →Hot showers and comfortable beds after a long night on the bank

More fishing at Walters Lake
Right next to Lake Pochard, Walters Lake offers a different style of fishing for anyone wanting to mix things up during their stay. It's a well-established commercial match fishery of around 4.5 acres with a healthy stock of carp, tench, bream, roach and rudd, and produces strong silvers sport through the winter months.
Walters Lake is managed separately by South Cerney Angling Club and is open to members, with day tickets available from The Tackle Den (01285 862716).
