The Flagship Guide

Fishing Holidays
in the Cotswolds.

Why anglers choose the Cotswold Lakes — and how Primrose Lodge becomes the perfect base.

Why the Cotswolds

180+ lakes · year-round

One of the UK's best fishing holiday destinations.

The Cotswolds is famous for picturesque villages, rolling countryside and historic market towns — but for many anglers it offers something equally special: some of the finest fishing holiday opportunities in England.

The wider Cotswold Lakes area is home to more than 180 lakes, creating a unique landscape that attracts anglers from across the country throughout the year. Whether you're planning a dedicated carp fishing break, a relaxing weekend beside the water, or a holiday where fishing is only part of the experience — you'll find an exceptional combination of quality fishing, beautiful scenery and comfortable accommodation.

At Primrose Lodge, guests enjoy a peaceful lakeside setting at Lake Pochard while exploring everything this remarkable area has to offer.

More than just a fishing trip

A great fishing holiday isn't just about the fishing — it's about the entire experience.

  • The early morning anticipation as the lake wakes up.
  • The peace and quiet of being outdoors.
  • The chance to switch off from work, emails and routines.
  • Time with family, friends or simply your own thoughts.

Unlike destinations that can feel isolated or purely functional, the Cotswold Lakes combines quality fishing with excellent restaurants, traditional pubs, beautiful countryside and plenty for non-anglers too.

Fishing at Lake Pochard

11.5 acres of water, carp to over 40lb.

Lake Pochard is an 11.5 acre fishery welcoming everyone from first-timers to seasoned carp anglers — with resident carp reaching over 40lb. Fishing is capped at just 8 anglers on the main specimen lake at any one time, so please check availability before booking to avoid disappointment.

The lake's green lane is reserved exclusively for lodge guests, with no need to pre-book a swim — simply pick your spot when you arrive. The red and blue lanes are operated separately by Walters Lake Fishery.

For guests staying at Primrose Lodge, the biggest advantage is convenience. Instead of hours travelling, you wake up beside the lake and spend your time on the bank rather than in traffic — and the swims are only a short walk from the veranda.

Carp Fishing Holidays

A recognised destination for carp anglers.

Carp fishing remains one of the most popular forms of angling in the UK. Anglers spend months planning trips, researching venues and looking for accommodation that allows them to make the most of their time on the bank.

The Cotswold Lakes is a recognised destination for carp anglers thanks to the variety of lakes throughout the region. Guests staying at Primrose Lodge benefit from a comfortable base while also enjoying the wider attractions of the area.

After a day outdoors, return to:

  • Comfortable accommodation
  • Hot showers
  • A fully equipped kitchen
  • Fibre broadband
  • A lakeside setting
  • Local pubs and restaurants nearby

A far more relaxing experience than basic fishing accommodation.

Weekend fishing breaks

Not every fishing holiday needs to last a week. Long weekends are made for this.

  • Escape everyday routines
  • Enjoy uninterrupted fishing time
  • Relax beside the water
  • Recharge and unwind

The location is particularly convenient for visitors travelling from the South West, Midlands, London and the South East — close enough for a Friday-evening arrival, far enough to feel like a proper escape.

Fishing holidays for couples

Mixed-interest holidays. Nobody left out.

While one person enjoys fishing, their partner can spend the day exploring the villages, the towns or simply the deck.

  • Explore South Cerney
  • Visit Cirencester
  • Enjoy lakeside walks
  • Browse independent shops
  • Relax with a book on the decking
  • Visit local cafés and restaurants
